After earning his MSc. and PhD in Chemical Technology from IIT Roorkee, India, specializing in Physical and Radio Chemistry, Dr. Gill served as a visiting scholar at the Universities of Perugia, Italy and the University of Salford, U.K.
He joined State University of New York at Buffalo as a Research Assistant Professor and collaborated research with Professor George H. Nancollas on crystal growth and aqueous chemical equilibrium.
He joined Calgon Corporation where for 21 years he managed R &D scale and corrosion core competency, developing the first industrial water treatment modeling tools, and several products based on new molecules.
He was honored with IR-100 award in 1980 for developing water treatment modeling tools. He retired from Nalco as a Research Fellow after 41 years of combined service with Calgon and Nalco.
He was responsible for authoring over 130 papers and over 50 US patents covering a wide range of technologies applied to scale and corrosion control in water treatment, pulp/paper, mining, oil production, oil sand and pipelines, power generation, renewal energy such as Geothermal.
Dr Gill pioneered the cooling lake water treatment to optimize chemical use. He is well known globally in the field of power generation, including the use of geothermal energy.
He is involved in the work of CTI, IWC, GRC, and NACE.
